Peacefully at the Souris Hospital on March 11, 2017, our beloved mother passed away surrounded by loving family. Mary was a resident at Colville Manor and formerly of Gowan Brae. Born in Bear River, P.E.I., on January 15, 1921. Mary was the eldest of 12 children born to Alice and Stephen Hughes. Lovingly remembered by her children Mary (David MacSwain), Lucy (Bruce Noye), Michael (Cheryl), Joseph (Lela Veld), Richard (Barb), Cheryl (Michael Broderick), Maureen (Jim Crawley), Charles, Stephanie (Brad Gardiner), Florence MacDonald, daughters-in-law Kate O’Keefe and Kathy O’Keefe, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sisters Martina Corrin, Margaret Coker, Beatrice MacCormack, brothers James (Debbie) and John (Pauline), sisters-in-law Sr. Florence O’Keefe CND, Bernadette Hughes and brother-in-law Andy Jarvis. Predeceased by her husband Aidan, sons Terry and Francis Paul, parents Alice and Stephen Hughes, sisters Mildred, Virginia, Gertrude, Irene, Joan, and brother Norbert, sons in-law Don Couturier, Jimmy Doiron and Earl MacDonald, grandson Jonathan Broderick. Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home in Souris for visiting hours on Tuesday, March 14, from 6 – 9 p.m. and Wednesday morning, 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Funeral to be held on Wednesday morning, March 15, 2017 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Souris for funeral mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Internment at St. Alexis Cemetery, Rollo Bay.
