SHAW, John
Glen Road East, Pictou County
Theodore "John" Joseph Shaw, May 22, 1967 - March 19, 2017. After a courageous 11 month battle with cancer, John passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 19, 2017 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow. John was an amazing man with a heart of gold. He would help anyone, anytime, with anything. The courage and strength he showed throughout the battle of his life, while having a smile on face, carried each and every one of us through every day. John was well known throughout the fishing community, both fishing and hauling boats next to his best friend, his Dad. He is survived by his fiancée and soul mate, Bernadette Cleary; his father, Theodore Shaw, Pictou; his mother, Anne Shaw (Stephen Stewart), Trenton. He was loving father to Sharon MacKenzie (Stefan Fancey), Westville; Gloria MacKenzie (Mark), Stellarton; Nicole MacKenzie (Blair), Glencoe; Alex MacKenzie, Union Center; and PaPa John to Skyla, Marcus, Karson, Cayden, Jacob, Joshua, Jordan, Damon & Spenser. He is also survived by his sister, Deana Landry (John), Pictou, and nieces, Brea and Samantha; sister, Barb Shaw (Jared) and nieces, Bobbi and Randi; brother, Stephen Stewart, Halifax. He was special nephew to Sadie and John O'Hearn, Pictou; John and Virginia MacDonald, Priestville; Sharon and Calvin DeYoung, New Glasgow; Patricia and Doug Kenny, Trenton; and his great aunt, Jean MacDonald, Riverton. He is survived by many cousins and will be dearly missed by his fur babies, Buttercup and Baby Bear. John was predeceased by grandparents, Lauchie and Mary Jane Shaw, George and Isabel MacDonald; and his uncle, Michael Shaw. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will take place 11 AM Friday from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. Donations in his memory would be greatly appreciated to the Oncology Patient Fund (Attention: Bonnie McCarron) Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. As in life, he wished for families struggling with cancer to have access to support. Special thanks to Dr. Anne Kwasnik, Dr. Rivera, the staff of Palliative Care, and the staff of ATC. Your support allowed us to have John at home the past three weeks of his life, and they were a gift to his entire family.
