Dorothy Joyce (Harris) Wilcox
Born: November 15th, 1928
Joyce was born in St. Catharines on November 15, 1928 but moved as a child with her family to Louisbourg, Cape Breton. It was there, at a dance in 1946, that she met and soon married the love of her life. They danced together for nearly 61 years until Tom passed away in 2008. They returned to St. Catharines to raise their family in 1952. Although Joyce worked in sales at J Michaels Ladies wear for several years, for her entire life she was a caregiver at heart. She raised three strong children and had an undeniable impact on the lives of her grandchildren. Joyce was at her best when she spent summers back in Cape Breton with her friends and family. It was there that she let her hair down and had fun. She was a proud and beautiful woman, stoic and she rarely complained.
She died peacefully at Bella Senior Care Home on March 16, 2017. Joyce was loved deeply and will be missed. Predeceased by her husband, Tom and brother, Daniel Ewen Harris; Joyce will be forever loved by daughters, Lynn Bessey and Suzanne Fletcher (John); son, Chris Wilcox (Kelly); grandchildren, Debbie Bessey (Paul Matoff), Jodi Bessey (Tim Lipsitt), Marc Fletcher, Katie Fletcher (Mike Reid), Hannah Woychenko and Orion Woychenko; sister, Lois Latham in Gabarus, CB; sister-in-law, Diane Harris in Sydney CB; and several nieces and nephews across Canada, too numerous to mention but not forgotten. Joyce had several charities that she respected and requested donations to either The Power & the Glory Powerlifting Team Niagara Special Olympics or Heart & Stroke Foundation in her honour. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Visitation will be Saturday March 25 11 a.m.-1 p.m., with funeral service at 1 p.m.
