Marion Willis

Born In: Sydney, Nova Scotia
Born: September 9th, 1922

Passed on: March 20th, 2017

We, the family of Marion Charles Willis, regret to announce her passing on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the age of 94. Born September 9, 1922, in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Sylvester and Cassie (MacIntosh) Mingarelli. As the eldest of nine, Marion was a strong defender of her siblings. The bond she shared with her sisters was particularly close and unwavering – an unbreakable force. The bond of sisterhood was matched only by her loving marriage of 50 years to husband, Earl. Together, Marion and Earl ran the White Rose gas station in Coxheath for many years, and later moved to the west coast of BC until retirement age brought them home to Cape Breton. Marion was a beautiful woman, inside and out, with a strong work ethic and love of life. She was a very giving woman who put the needs of her family before her own. She was an incredible cook and baker, and gifted many friends and family members with her handmade afghans. Marion is survived by her daughter, Cathy, Coxheath; sons, Gary (Charlotte), Coxheath and Earl (Michelle), Oshawa, Ont.; sisters, Judy Crane, South Bar and Mabel (Ian) Rice, Sydney/Florida; grandchildren, Barby, David, Robert and Jaime; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. We will carry her forever in our hearts.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Earl; sisters, Elsie, Diana, Sylvia and Maxine and brothers, Henry and Danny. Thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Harbourstone for providing Mom with kindness, fun and loving compassion over the past eight years - we are forever grateful. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, March 27 at 11 a.m., with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Interment in St. Mark’s Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
