Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Gillis, age 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
Born and raised in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Mary Margaret (MacNeil) Morrison. Lizzie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a former member of St. Eugene’s Church. She is survived by one daughter, Thelma MacIsaac (Ronnie), MacAdam’s Lake; one granddaughter, Charlene and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Lizzie was predeceased by her husband, Paul in 1975; seven siblings, Sally, Mary, Annie –her twin, Bridget, Margaret, Alex and Angus. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service, officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Interment to take place at a later date in St. Eugene’s Cemetery, Dominion.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
The family wish to thank Lorna and Ronnie MacDonald as well as Lois Sloan for the many deeds done over the years for my mother. Also, a special thank you to the staff at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
