It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Patricia (Quirk) Hood, age 97, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, on Friday March 24, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Margaret was born in Rose Blanche, Newfoundland, July 20, 1919; she was a daughter of the late William ‘Billy’ and Mary (Skinner) Organ. Margaret was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, she was community minded and was a volunteer with many organizations throughout her life. Margaret loved spending time with her family, she was a woman of style and grace and touched the hearts of so many people in her long life.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Margaret Quirk with whom she resided, Joan (Ron) Eavis, North Sydney; her sons, Peter Quirk, North Sydney, Danny (Zita) Quirk and Harold (Gwen) Quirk, both of Brampton, ON; her brothers, Phil Organ, North Sydney, Jack (Meg) Organ, Ontario; her sisters, Anne Walker, Calgary, Geraldine (Bob) Mitchell, NB; special sister-in-law, Aeris MacMillan, North Sydney; grandchildren, Ronnie, Roger, Leslie, Sean (Sylvia), Michele (Mark) and Noel; great grandchildren, Chris, Sasha, Evan, Savian and Shayden. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her first husband, Daniel Quirk and second husband, Robert Hood; by two sons, Kenny and Jimmy Quirk; sisters, Hazel MacDonald, Mary MacIntyre and Cass Walsh and sister-in-law, Kay Organ. The family would like to thank Dr. Bill MacDonald, the nursing staff of 4East at the Northside General Hospital, the staff of the Northside Homemakers, she loved them all, especially her angel Bonnie, to Dr. John Ritter with Palliative Care, VON and to a dear friend Patty for her help in getting us through such a difficult time.
No visitation by request. A private family service will be held. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
