Passed peacefully away at the Caribou Veteran's Pavilion on Sunday, March 26th, 2017, John Bastow in his 88th year. John was a Korean War veteran, and retired fire captain of the St. John's Regional Fire Department. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 59 years Jean; his two daughters who adored him Leila (Paul), and Marlene (Bernard); four beautiful granddaughters: Leanne (Scott), Lesley (Jeff), Kimberley, and Nicole (Mike); and five amazing great-grandchildren: Aiden, Cameron, Brielle, Ben, and Connor. Special thanks to all the amazing staff at the Veteran's Pavilion. Our family truly appreciated your kindness, compassion, and care during his stay. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, March 28th, 2017 from 7-9 p.m, and Wednesday, March 29th, 2017 from 2-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 30th, 2017 at 9:30 a.m, with inurnment to follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Field of Honor. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
