John Grant  McKinley

The death of John Grant McKinley, 88, of Port Elgin, occurred at the Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, on Monday, March 20, 2017. Born in Campbellton, NB, Grant was a son of the late Hilton and Georgina (Dickson) McKinley.
Grant had been in the Royal Canadian Navy and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 81, Cape Tormentine. He was a member of the Port Elgin Rotary for over fifty years and had been a Mason. He was a member of the Port Elgin Volunteer Fire Department and the Auxiliary RCMP.
Grant had owned and operated McKinley's Self Serve Grocery in Port Elgin for fifteen years and worked in various occupations over his life and finally retiring from Murray Corner Provincial Park. He was a talented musician and enjoyed watching sports on television. He enjoyed summers at the cottage at Ann's Acres and working in his garden.
He will be sadly missed by two daughters, Sandra (Brian) Fury, Dieppe and Shelly (Dave) Bailie, Sackville; two sons, Robert, Moncton and Michael (Gail), Ottawa; seven grandchildren, Tracy, Pam, Stephanie, Jonathan, Sarah, Quinten, and Morgan; ten great grandchildren, Cody, Alex, Stephanie, Isabelle, Ben, Becca, Keirsten, Kristina, Amelia and Oliver; a sister, Eileen Scarlett, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Grant was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy; brothers Dave and Edgar, and a sister, Norma.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (506-364-1300) from where a time of visitation was held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A funeral service was held at the funeral home on Monday at 2 pm. Interment will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in memory of Grant may be made to the Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, NB, the Port Elgin Rotary Club, or a charity of the donor's choice.
