Mary LeBLANC

LeBLANC, Mary E.
Pictou

It is with a profound sense of peace that we announce the passing of our incredible matriarch, Mary Elizabeth LeBlanc. Mary passed away on Sunday, April 2nd, 2017 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow after a long and fierce battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 87. Born in Souris, PEI, Mary grew up in Liverpool, NS, met and married Fred LeBlanc, and raised her own five children as a military wife, a role perfectly suited to her innate strength of character and independence. Early on the family was posted to Germany where Mary thrived on taking care of her family, travelling a bit from their base in Verle, Germany, and making friends that would last a life time. In 1962 the family returned to Canada, primarily posted to Oromocto, NB and eventually resettled back to their roots in Pictou, NS. Mary then spent the rest of her days enjoying visits from her huge family and friends, sewing, playing cards, and ultimately embarking on one of the greatest pleasures of her life – playing music in a band aptly known as “The Forget Me Nots.” Mary is survived by her husband of 65 years, Frederick Louis LeBlanc; her daughters, Lee Navid (Glen); Jackie Muise (Mike); Anne Shears (Alton); her youngest son, Frederick Louis LeBlanc (Stacy); and brothers, Winston Gallant and Richard Nelligan. Mary is also loved and remembered by every one of her 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and family friends. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Charles LeBlanc (Oritha); grandson, Jason Harding; parents, Rudolph and Jeannette Gallant; brothers, Joseph, Peter, Charles and Gerald Gallant; sister, Laura Stewart; and uncle, Peter Whitty. The family also would like to extend our sincere and deep appreciation to the nursing staff of the Aberdeen Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit for their unfailing dedication, care and compassion in Mary’s final days. We are forever grateful. Visitation will be held 7-9 PM Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will take place 11 AM Thursday from the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please. In lieu, donations may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
