Born: June 2nd, 1963

Passed on: March 2nd, 2017

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of John Joseph McCarthy at Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony on March 2nd, 2017 in his 53rd year. John was born to Leonard and Laura McCarthy in St. Julien’s on June 2, 1963. The family moved to Goose Cove, where John attended St. Mary’s School, and then on to Harriot Curtis Collegiate in St. Anthony where he graduated in 1981. After graduation he fished with his dad and brothers. John fell in love with and married the love of his life, Eileen Alyward. They had two beautiful children, whom he cherished, Jordan and Christine. Just over a year ago they were blessed with their first granddaughter, Mya, whom he also adored. He also had a lot of love for his two little furbabies, Pepsy and Rebel. In 2007 John enrolled in a heavy equipment operator course in Badger and from there was employed with CEDA International in Alberta, where he worked for the past nine years and met some great friends. John’s greatest passion, besides family, was for motorcycles and over the years, with his wife by his side, he had many motorcycle adventures. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his soulmate Eileen; son Jordan (Chrisoula); daughter (Christine), and granddaughter Mya; sisters Anne (Kevin), and Alice (Stephen); brothers Jerome (Agnes), and Ron (Lynn); mother-in-law Bernadette and father-in-law Francis as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents. The cremation memorial service took place in Goose Cove on March 9th, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Vitus officiating. A beautiful service was held, where we was surrounded by family and friends. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.
