With broken hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Bernard Peter Kozera, 81. Bernard passed away after a brief illness on April 10, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was a life-long resident of Whitney Pier and the youngest son of the late Peter and Loretta (Penny) Kozera. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sheri; brothers, Donald and Frank and sisters, Betty Ann and Shirley.
Left to grieve is his loving wife of 56 years, Judy (Westbury); his son, Robert (Margo), Sydney; his daughters, Ann (Arnie) Lloyd, Elmsdale and Julie (Pat) Alexander, Fredericton. Also the love of his life, his grandchildren, Kelsey, Hannah and Nick.
As a young man he joined the Canadian Army and after getting his jump wings, he was posted to RCR Airborne Battalion in Germany on a UN peace keeping mission. After his return home he started to work construction as a laborer; later he joined the International Heat and Frost Insulators Union and became a lifelong member working 38 years in the industry.
In his leisure time he was an avid hunter and fisherman tying a lot of his own fly tying. He loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time walking and working in the yard tending the flowers and bushes he planted.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the kind, care and compassion they showed him and our family.
