Gordon Osborne Taylor

Taylor, Gordon Osborne PEng (98 years)
Passed away peacefully on April 10, 2017 at Arborstone Enhanced Care in Halifax, with family members at his side. Born in Truro, he was the son of the late T. Gordon and Hilda F. Taylor. Retired after many years in Engineering with CN Telecommunications, Toronto. A graduate of Acadia University, Wolfville and Nova Scotia Technical College (Dal/Tech), Halifax, he and his late wife Reta lived in Oakville, ON for over 50 years. Served on several Engineering committees including the Canadian Standards Association, the International Standards Organization, the Canadian Association of Telecommunications Carriers, the Building Industry Consulting Service. He was a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the CN Pensioners Association, a past member of the Engineering Institute of Canada in Toronto, the Toronto Canadian Club, and the Toronto Electrical Club. He served on the Adult Training Committee of Oakville, ON, and the Association for the Mentally Challenged. Gordon was a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society in Oakville for 25 years. An active member of the Anglican Church of Canada, a delegate to Diocesan Synods of Toronto and Niagara, a member of St. Aiden’s Church, Oakville, ON for fifty years holding every office in the parish over the years, and a licensed Lay Reader from 1963 to 2006. For his service to the church he was admitted to the Order of Niagara in 2003.
Gordon and Sharon (Dublin) (Foster) married in Edmonton, AB and moved to Halifax in 2006. He became a member of First Baptist Church Halifax in 2008. Predeceased by his first wife Reta (Burnett) 1996, sister Noma Wigglesworth 1995, brother Cyril (Barbara) 2009, brother Royce (Joan) 2010, sister Joyce (Bonner) 2011. Survived by his wife Dr. Sharon D. Taylor, sister Ruth MacArthur, Truro, NS, daughters Katherine Taylor, Toronto and Judith Berglund (Bruce), Ancaster, ON and grandchildren Kristian (Sarah) Berglund, Tyler and Julie Berglund and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 7-9pm. Funeral service at First Baptist Church Halifax, 1300 Oxford St. on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 2pm. A reception will be held in the church hall.
Internment and graveside service will take place in Oakville, ON at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens. If desired donations may be made to Gordon’s favourite charity, The Canadian Cancer Society, your own church or charity of choice.
