Elizabeth Compton

Passed on: April 15th, 2017

The family of Elizabeth "Joyce" Compton is saddened to announce her passing on April 15, 2017 in Moose Jaw, SK. Joyce was the youngest child of Irv and Lucia Stebbins, born on January 5, 1928 in Moose Jaw. Her childhood and school years were on the farm between Tilney and Baildon, SE of Moose Jaw. She loved school but the sudden passing of her mom when Joyce was only 16 ended her school years as she had to help her dad on the farm. Joyce married Ellis Compton on January 26, 1946, only four weeks after Ellis' discharge from the Royal Canadian Navy at the end of WWII. She loved to work and keep busy, and helped Ellis with his taxi business in Moose Jaw before living in various Southern SK communities when Ellis became a grain buyer for PH&H. A short farming stint in Spring Valley ended with a move back to Moose Jaw in the late 1950's. During the 50's she gave birth to her "three sons" that she was so proud of...Clarke, Gary and Keith. Once all of her sons were in school she loved her part-time work at jewelry stores and dress shops in Moose Jaw; but whatever job she had she was always home by 4:00pm to be there for the boys after school. Being the social person she was, Joyce took up curling in Moose Jaw with the highlight being an eight ender her rink scored. In 1970, Ellis and Joyce moved to Assiniboia after buying what became Compton Chevrolet Oldsmobile. Almost 25 years of living in Assiniboia turned out to be the best years of their lives. Joyce was involved in so many things while living in Assiniboia that they are too numerous to mention here. She continued to curl, started golfing, enjoyed going to church and helped nurture new grandchildren that were the love of her life. Her musical highlight was when she played with "The Entertainers". The group of tight knit ladies performed their music and skits at various events all over Southern Saskatchewan. She was so proud of being a member and talked fondly about them at any opportunity. In 1994 Joyce and Ellis moved to Regina for their retirement years but her heart was always in Assiniboia. As long as she was able she made the drive back to Assiniboia as often as possible. Joyce was predeceased by Ellis her husband of 67 years, her parents, three sisters, and one brother. She leaves to mourn her sons Clarke (Sandra), Gary (Sharon), and Keith (Barb); grandchildren Casey (Jason), Curt (Shannon), Craig (Erin), Kyla (James), Brad (Natasha), Shane, Colleen, and Kyle; great-grandchildren Catherine, Ella, Jack and Sam. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Barb and Keith for sacrificing so much of their time to tend to mom's needs. Also to the staff at Providence Place who were outstanding in the performance of their duties. Memorial donations made in memory of Joyce to Providence Place, 100 2nd Ave NE, Moose Jaw, SK, S6H 1B8, would be appreciated. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St. W, Moose Jaw, SKBlair & Kelly Scott, Funeral Directors 306-694-5500 Please see our online book of condolences at www.parkviewfuneralchaple.ca
