Barbara Clarke

Barbara F. Clarke age 87 of Amherst passed away peacefully at Gables Lodge, Amherst on Saturday, April 15, 2017.
Born in Amherst on August 2, 1929 she was a daughter of the late B.F. Baird and Lucy (Porter) Baird.
Barb’s greatest love was her family. She led a full and busy life teaching her children and grandchildren to sing, dance, play games and have fun.
Mom was a born caregiver and spent countless hours volunteering in many capacities.
Barb was a member of Trinity St. Stephen’s United Church, Amherst and taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She also enjoyed being a leader of the youth group. Over the years she worked as a volunteer for the Bridge Workshop, UCW, Tantramar Chapter of the IODE as (Past Regent and Area Vice), Meals on Wheels, board of the Canadian Cancer Society, CNIB, board of the Lady Tweedsmuir Club and participated in the Terry Fox Run annually for 20 years.
She was a bridge player, florist, enjoyed knitting and made many historical dolls.
Barb is survived by her loving husband Russell, her children Christine of Edmonton, AB, Tom (Angie) of Sydney, NS and Leslie of Liverpool, NS; sisters Jean Chapman and Helen Ripley both of Amherst, grandchildren Chris (Mary) Logan, Luke Logan, Alexandra Clarke, Tony Clarke, Hannah (Jeff) McKinnon, Aynsley (Logan) Ward and Paige (Chris) Blay, ten great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Pauline Landry and infant brother Charles.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 7 – 9 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906).
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Campbell’s Chapel with Rev. Nigel Weaver officiating.
Memorial donations in Barb’s memory may be made to the IWK Hospital or the charity of your choice.
