Angus Joseph Gillis
Born: August 31st, 1951
Passed on: April 24th, 2017
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my best friend, love of my life, great father, grandfather, brother and friend. Angus Joseph Gillis, 65, of Dutch Brook, passed away suddenly, at home, on Monday, April 24, 2017.
Born August 31, 1951, in Sydney, he was the son of the late Angus and Josie (LeBlanc) Gillis of Prime Brook.
Angus was a family man. His wife Debbie and their family meant everything to him. After retirement, he planned on spending many hours at his summer home in Fourchu, where he and Debbie could enjoy early morning breakfasts on the deck overlooking Fourchu Harbour. After being employed with Sydney Steel, Angus worked for the CBRM, retiring in August 2016. He was a member of the Grand Mira Dart League and the Cape Breton Wildlife Association.
Angus is survived by his loving wife, Debbie (Walker); sons, Robert (Ella), Alberta and Vince (Barbie), Sydney; grandchildren, Austin (Katia), Evan, Makenna and Peytan, who meant the world to him. He is also survived by his brothers, Rannie (Brenda), Marty (Wendy) and David (Pam); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed by his Fourchu family, special uncle and aunt, Philip and Peggy Gwynn and their family. He leaves behind his fur babies, Missy and Lily, who he loved dearly.
Besides his parents, Angus was predeceased by Debbie’s parents, John and Dolena Walker of Fourchu.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, April 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Friday 10 a.m., with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
