Dennis E. Day

Born: December 30th, 1951

Passed on: April 26th, 2017

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother and uncle, Dennis Edward Day, age 65, on Wednesday April 26, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Dennis was born in Sydney, December 30, 1951. He was the son of the late Thomas and Ellen (MacMullen) Day. Dennis was a seaman on the Great Lake Boats for many years until his retirement. He attended Humber College and studied cinematography, he loved movies, trivia, animals, literature, music, playing the guitar, he was an avid golfer and Montreal Canadiens fan. In younger years he was penned with the nickname ‘Fox’ and in more recent times he enjoyed connecting with family and friends through social media. Dennis’ friends are the same friends he made in Boy Scouts and Junior High, truly lifelong friendships.
Dennis is survived by his brothers, Tommy (Carol Anne) Day, Sydney Mines, Kevin Day, North Sydney, Rob (Anne) Day and Greg (Joanne) Day, both of Halifax; his sisters, Bev (Ken) Lomond, Pat (Alex) Sampson, Shirley Day (Greg), Gwen Day, Kimberly Day and Jennifer Day, all of North Sydney. Dennis will be missed very much by his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He celebrated their talents and abilities. He made each one feel unique and an important part of his life, just as he was to them. His wit and sense of humor will be so missed.
Besides his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his brothers, Jerome, Gary, Wally, Melvin and an infant brother.
The family would like to thank the EHS paramedics, the nurses and doctors at emergency of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the excellent care given to Dennis.
By request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family gathering will be held. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
To all those who loved him, we ask you to honor him in the best way we can think of – grab whatever device you use for listening to music and put on your favourite Bob Dylan, John Lennon or Tom Waits song, close your eyes and send him home.
