Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Dr. Alejandro “Alex” Mercado Cunanan, passed away peacefully at Providence Place in Moose Jaw, SK on the morning of April 27, 2017. Born in Candaba, Pampanga, Philippines, Alex grew up in a large family. He pursued his dream of becoming a dentist, emigrating to North America in 1953, making his way to Canada via New York City, Dallas, TX and Baltimore, MD. He married his beautiful wife, Carolyn, in 1957. Eventually they moved to Saskatchewan, establishing his private dental practice in Saskatchewan in 1960. His many hobbies included painting, drawing, storytelling, cards, bowling, public speaking, dancing, Knights of Columbus (Grand Knight), and appreciating many different styles of music. He founded the Philippine Association of Saskatchewan in 1966, serving as its first president. Alex was a faith filled man who loved his family very much. He is predeceased by his parents; Jose and Consolacion Cunanan; his siblings, Aurora, Ernesto, Modesto, Segundo, Rita, Arellano, Jose Jr., Cezar and Helen; as well as by his infant son and infant grandson. Left to remember him with love is his beautiful wife of 59 years, Carolyn; their children Jeff (Cyndi), Ceddie (Cameron), Lisa (Tom); his grandchildren Kristin, Terrence, Alyssa, Kevin, Sam, Luke, Jane; and his brother, Iledefonzo in the Philippines. The family would like to thank the following for their loving and tender care over the past few years: Ambulatory Care, all staff at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital and Union Hospital, the Maguire Centre, West Park Retirement Community, and Providence Place, the church family of Church of God of the Bible in Huntersville, North Carolina, USA, Father Rick, Father Bert, Father Jake, Lamont Dyck, and Reverend Linda Tomlinson-Seebach and all those who kept Dad in their prayers. The Funeral Mass will take place Wednesday, May 3, 2017, 10:00AM at St. Joseph Church. Father Krofchek and Father Lillo will officiate. Interment to take place at Rosedale Cemetery. A Prayers Service will take place Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at St. Joseph Church (1064 3rd Ave. NW, Moose Jaw) at 7:00PM.
