New Glasgow - It is with unbelievable sadness we report that 53 year old Michael Maurice Murphy better known as Murph records a game loss in his courageous battle with cancer. Murph left the game late on May 1st, at the Aberdeen surrounded by a whole lot of love.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Annie Irene (MacGillivary) Murphy and Donald Robert Murphy.
Michael is survived by his soulmate, Heidi Hoegg, their sons, Tanner and Drew, still at home, sisters, Beth, Maureen and Donna of New Glasgow, brother, Bobby, Truro and sister-in-law, Lisa Atkinson. Murph’s extended family includes, Godmother aunt Marlene MacGillivary, Trenton, aunt Jenny MacGillivary, Antigonish, uncle Owen McCarron, Trenton, numerous cousins locally and from areas of Canada and the US, Sharon (Hoegg), Neil Cunningham, Jacqueline (Hoegg), Larry MacLeod, Martha (Hoegg), Donald MacDonald, Rick, Bonnie Hoegg, father-in-law Johnny Hoegg, Stellarton, Murph’s life long buddies from the Northend of New Glasgow and several nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Mike!
Mike was a fanatical hockey fan. He was an avid hockey coach for Pictou County Minor Hockey as well as Atlantic Hockey Group. He and his family spent countless hours in rinks across the province and even travelled to Boston to play. Murph devoted much of his time to supporting his Leafs, helping others and watching his boys as they participated in activities in the community.
For years Mike worked his business, Mike’s Courier and focused his attention on customer service.
Michael’s passion for honesty, fairness and inclusion along with his sarcastic sense of humour will be missed by those who love him.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave, New Glasgow. Funeral Mass 1 pm Friday in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
