Watt, P. Laverne, 72, Debert: It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Laverne Watt on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at the CEHHC Truro. Laverne was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She was predeceased by parents, Reginald and Pearl (Snow) Gilby; husband, John; companion, Neil Stephens; brothers, Lee Gilby, Ross (Marie) Gilby; sister, North Taggart. Laverne is survived by daughter, Janet (John) McCallum; son, Robert (Venita) Watt; granddaughter and her pride and joy, Janelle McCallum (Mark Peppard); brother, Boyd (Simonne) Gilby; sisters, Janet (Lloyd) Nelson, Joyce (Wayne) Spencer; sister-in-law, Carole Gilby; brother-in-law, Phillip Taggart; several nieces and nephews. During Laverne’s working career, she spent several years at Mitchell’s Optometrist, Maritime Tel & Tel, and DND. She loved to attend special holidays with family, birthday celebrations, where fun games were played, fun stories told and laughter was plentiful. Laverne enjoyed watching her game shows with good friend, Elsie Bain, playing cards, visits from cousins, Sharon Crowell, Gary Gilby, good friend, Doug McInnes, best friend Helen Eastcott, and to Ronnie and Paul Eastcott for all their help and companionship over many years. Laverne also enjoyed the chowder luncheons in Debert, with Lynn Casey and Audrey Dewar. Special thanks to the Hospice Society for all their delicious baking, the beautiful blanket, flowers, many visits, and wonderful selfless generosity and kind words they gave to mom in her last weeks of life, and also to the Palliative Care Unit. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, where visitation will be held 6 ~ 8 pm Saturday, May 6, and funeral service will be held 2 pm Sunday, May 7, Pastor Kaj Binderup officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Interment will then be held in the Watson Cemetery, East Prince Street Truro. Family flowers only. Donations in Laverne’s memory may be made to the Hospice Society or to the SPCA Colchester Branch.
