JAMES GORDON HEADING

Born In: Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada

Passed in: Canada
Passed on: May 5th, 2017

James Gordon Heading, of Sydney, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017, at home. Born in Regina, he was the son of the late James and Phobe (Aldred) Heading.
Gordon was a proud Dad and husband, who was involved in the community all of his life. In the early years, he was involved with the Lions Club and Kinsmen, and had a lifelong love of politics. Later in life, he sat on boards and supported charitable events, happily giving his time to his community. As a young man, Gordon loved the outdoors, particularly, Loch Lomond, where he spent many hours hunting and fishing. In his retirement, he rediscovered his love of fishing. An entrepreneur from early in life, his great passion was tourism. A tireless advocate for Cape Breton, Gordon worked in the industry for more than forty years. He was recognized for his work with CBTA (Cape Breton Tourism Association), TIANS (Travel Industry Association of Nova Scotia) and was inducted into the Cape Breton Business and Philanthropy Hall of Fame. While Gordon appreciated these awards, what he loved best was the time he spent with the many people he worked with over the years.
Gordon is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Bill MacKinnon), Alta. and Wanda (Peter Blom), Halifax; sons, Jim (Liz), Coxheath and Graham (Darlene), Westmount; son-in-law, Paul Kendall, Halifax; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie (Burns); daughter, Patricia; sister, Mary; brother, Arthur, and granddaughter, Nicole.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life will be held in the chapel on Friday at 2 p.m. Interment (immediate family only) will take place in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the IWK or the Lung Association of Nova Scotia. Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mailed to sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
