J. Allen MacDonald

John A. “Allen” MacDonald, 72 of Westville passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017 in the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax with his family at his side.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John F. and Margaret “Daisy” (Simmonds) MacDonald of Alma.
Allen was a retired employee of Scott Paper. He was a member of the Westville Fire Department for several years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of St. Paul United Church, active in the Session, serving on the M&P Committee, Christian Education, member of the Senior Choir, and served on the Board of Stewards where he held the position of chairman for several years.
He was also member of Scotia Lodge # 11, I.O.O.F. where he held several position; was President of the Maritime Oddfellows Home Board for several years and at his passing was President Emeritus.
Allen was a loving husband and father who had a contagious laugh.
Married for 49 years, Allen will be lovingly remembered by his wife Maude (Misener); daughter Rhonda, Westville and his little dog buddy “ Brandy”. He is also survived by sisters and brothers Dorothy Royles, Little Harbour; Joan Rushton (Paul), Oxford; Glenn (Marie), Broad Cove; Valerie, Brian, and Mary Gwen (Gary MacDonald), all of Alma; Bruce, West River Station; Ronald, Toronto; Clara (Jim Hamilton), Guelph, Ont.; Heather MacDonald (Steven), Trenton.
Allen was predeceased by his daughter Cathy and brother Paul.
Allen is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Scotia Lodge # 11 will conduct a service 6:30 Wednesday at the Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Thursday from St. Paul United Church, Westville with the Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Interment will be in the Auburn Cemetery.
Donations in Allen’s memory may be made to the S.P.C.A or to St. Paul United Church.
