At the Summerset Manor, Summerside on Monday, May 8, 2017 of Edwin Hammill formerly of Lower Freetown, aged 80 years. Born in Lower Freetown, he was a son of the late Redverse Hammill and the late Mary Eva (Dawson) Hammill. Edwin is survived by his wife, Joan (Vail) Hammill and his sons and daughters, Michael (Colleen) of Nine Mile Creek; Patricia McKenna (George), Kinkora; Karen Ellis (Merle), West Cape; Larry (Christine), Cornwall and Peter (Cheryl) of Charlottetown; 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also survived by brothers Eric (Helen) Hammill, Newton and Elmer (Mary) of Charlottetown. Besides his parents, Edwin is predeceased by infant son, Ronald; brothers, Gordon and Rev. Preston and by sisters, Elaine (Pius Croken), Freda, (Wilfred Smith) and in-laws Percy and Lauretta (Arsenault) Vail. Visitation at Kinkora Place on Thursday, May 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Malachy’s Church, Kinkora on Friday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. If so desired, donations in Edwin’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer Society or to Somerset Community Playground, Kinkora.
