It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of loving husband and father Fielding Peter Smith, age 69, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital in, New Glasgow, Pictou County on May 8th, 2017.
Born to the late Donald and Irma Smith of Springville on September 20th, 1947.
Fielding lived in Springville all of his life. He was an active member of his community serving as a county counsellor for 18 years. He was employed at Trenton Works where he held numerous positions with the United Steel Workers Union.
Fielding will be remembered as a “Cancer Champion”. For five years he fought this disease and overcame many challenges to beat the odds of his life expectancy. He is a true hero and role model. Anyone who knew Fielding would agree that he was the kindest person you could know, always lending a hand when one was needed.
He is dearly missed by his loving wife Roberta Smith; daughter Kenda (Shane) Pellerine; grandchildren Colby and Logan Pellerine; brothers Marshall (Joanne) Smith, Grants Lake; Mervin (Charlene) Smith, Westville; Fred (Debbie) Smith, Springville; Kenneth Smith, Alberta; sisters Anne (Barry) Corbin, Berwick; Nancy (Robby) MacNutt, Springville; Arlene Smith (Robert MacMillan), New Glasgow.
There will be no visitation at the request of the family. Memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, May 14th, 2017 at the Springville Presbyterian Church. Internment at a later date.
Family flowers only.
Donations can be made in Fielding’s memory to the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital, Springville Building Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
Special thank-you to the Palliative Care Team in the Aberdeen Hospital, and to all those who supported us throughout Fielding’s 5 year battle.
