Harold Yurczyszyn

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Harold Yurczyszyn, announce his passing on Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, while surrounded by loving family and friends, at the age of 72.
Harry was born in Whitney Pier to the late Helen (Steton) and William Yurczyszyn on June 22, 1944.
Harry worked as a laborer with Ontario Hydro before moving back home to Cape Breton with his family in 1976.
Harry resided in Frenchvale where he could do what he loved best… farming, gardening and fishing.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Harry is survived by his wife of 52 years, who he adored and cherished, Phyllis (Parsons) Yurczyszyn, and his precious children, Harry (Colleen Fitzgerald) and Lisa (Jonathan) Prince, whom he chose to love dearly.
Harry idolized children and was blessed with seven grandchildren, Jessica (his Angel), Jonathan, Shaine, Abie (his Princess), Amanda, Heather and Kelsey, and by six great grandchildren.
Also surviving are his brothers, Frankie (Bev), Michael, Freddy and James; his sisters, Ardel, (Dave) MacPherson, Barbara (Wayne) Jackson, Phyllis (Lloyd) MacLeod, Jeannette and Brenda.
He leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He had a special bond with each one of them that was very evident when they were together or apart. His influence in their lives helped create the fine adults they have become and believe me when I say he was always proud whenever you sought his advice.
Harry had several cousins who he remained close to throughout his life and will miss his presence in their lives.
Harry was also dearly loved by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl Parsons, Cecil Parsons (Jean), Tim Parsons (Liz), Violet (Late Thomas) Haycox, Valerie Brown (Jerry), Wayne Parsons (Sandy), Donna (Late Greg) Podetz and Doug (Late Sharon) Parsons.
Harry had many friends who were like extended family. He will be dearly missed by his close friends, Gwen Cole and Roy Anderson who were blessings in his life.
Harry experienced and overcame great obstacles his entire life. He always showed strength and courage no matter the situation; however, he leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness in all who knew him.
Visitation for Harry will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
