MUNARI, MARY JANET (MACISAAC) JULY 3, 1939 - FEBRUARY 21, 2017

Mary Janet, with her loving family around her, passed away peacefully at home in Albano, Rome, on February 20, as a result of cancer. Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, to John and Sarah (MacNeil) MacIsaac, Mary Janet attended Truro schools and St. Francis Xavier University prior to graduate studies in hospital dietetics at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. She served as dietitian at the NS Hospital prior to moving to Rome where she married Dr. Mario Munari (Arch.) in 1965. She returned to work as a hospital dietitian and in later years shared with Mario her interest in the hospitality and trade/fair business. Together they actively studied paleontology, were avid collectors of fine art and antiques, and was admired for her leadership on social justice issues, especially on behalf of women. They particularly enjoyed hosting friends and relatives from Nova Scotia.

Mary Janet is survived by her husband, Mario, two children, Chiara (Gianni) and Marcello (Giuliana), her brothers Colin (Helen) and Laurie, sisters Anne Rosgen and Sarah (Steve) Ross and by sister-in-law Nora MacIsaac. Mary Janet was predeceased by her parents, her brother Jack and sister-in- law Maureen MacIsaac. A celebration of MJ’s life was held by her local community in Albano on February 23rd with sisters Sarah and Anne and niece, Kate Rosgen, in attendance.
