Roger Michael Joseph Christmas

Passed on: May 14th, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Roger Michael Joseph Christmas, 30, of Membertou. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Sunday, May 14, 2017. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Jessie (Simon) and the late Roger Christmas Sr.
Roger was born with Spina Bifida and during his time he went beyond expectation of what the medical doctors said. In his teen years, he had his leg amputated which limited his ability to some degree. Roger was a true fighter in every one’s eyes. Nine months ago he was diagnosed with cancer which took a toll on him.
Roger had a heart of gold and always greeted others with a smile and conversation. He enjoyed the company of his best friend Justin Christmas and family friend Paul Clarke. In his younger days he would clean the bus for our father and with his reward he always walked to the store with a smile.
Rogers favourite past time before becoming an amputee was riding on his ATV, his other hobbies included playing games on his PS4 and computer, watching his CSI movies, scratching his lottery tickets and making music cd's for his best friend. Roger graduated from Sydney Academy in 2006. He held a few on the job experiences at the Membertou C@P site and the former Hines Trucking.
He is survived by our mother, Jessie; sisters, Cynthia (TJ) Sylliboy and Miranda (Billy) Loveys; brother, Ben Christmas (Michelle Paul); nephews, Keegan, Cody, Ethan, Mason and Colton; nieces, Brittany, Shayla, Shana, Oceania, Hope, Emma and Jayla, and godparents, Robert Christmas and Ceceila Christmas.
Besides our father, Roger was also predeceased by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Christmas; grandmother, Susie Bernard; uncles, Russell Christmas, John Simon and Rene Bernard, and aunt, Irene Paul.
Visitation for Roger will begin at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 22 at the family residence, 37 Veterans Ave, Membertou. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24 at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev Bill Burke officiating with interment in Membertou Memorial Gardens.
At this time we would like to say a huge thank you to Membertou Chief and Council, Membertou Health Care staff, Polletts Drug Store, Dr MS Virick, Dr Rent, Dr Butler, Dr Archibald, the staff of 4D at theCBRH, VON Staff, and to the Pallative Care unit especially to Jackie who made things a lot easier.
