It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and untimely passing of wife, mother and grandmother, Martha Cameron, 70, of Glace Bay, on Tuesday May 16, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with loving family at her side. Born in Glace Bay to the late Lloyd and Elizabeth (MacKenzie) Hillier.
Martha was well known for her work as Food Service Supervisor at Seaview Manor. Her career spanned a total of 29 years until her retirement in 2012. Martha’s service and dedication to Seaview Manor was demonstrated through her continued volunteer work with various committees including her role as President of the Friends of the Manor, Seaview Manor Support Group member, member of the Alzheimer’s Society and member of Seaview Manor Board of Directors. Her commitment will be sadly missed.
Martha’s pride for her family was another passion in her life. She leaves behind to mourn, her daughter, Karen (Brian) Budden, and son, Harvey (Carol) Cameron; grandchildren, Emily (Conor), Matthew (Nadara), Amy and Abby. She was also fortunate to find a friend and companion in her live-in Chinese student, Wency (Li Haowen) who resided with her for the last five years. Martha is also survived by sisters, Ann Michalik, Gwen (Jimmy) Smith; brothers, George (Kim) Hillier and Lloyd (Lorna) Hillier, as well as many nieces and nephews. Martha also leaves behind Patches, her furry friend who shared many adventures with her including a road trip to Florida. A special acknowledgement to the “Club Girls”, Mary-Anita McCormick, Julie Tomato and Diane Aucoin.
Martha was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Harvey Cameron Sr.; parents, Lloyd and Elizabeth (MacKenzie) Hillier, and brother, Vern Hillier.
Visitation will take place at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay on Friday May 19, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Church, Seaview Street, Glace Bay on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Norman McPhee officiating. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of the Manor or a charity of one’s choice.
