Mary Jessie MacArthur (MacIsaac) age 102 years of Sydney, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 with her loving family by her side.
Born and raised in Gabarus Lake, she was the daughter of the late Dan Hector and Penny (MacKinnon) MacIsaac.
Jessie, a kind and gentle soul, loved life to the fullest and family was always a priority to her. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was a devoted member of the former St. Anthony Daniel parish of Sydney.
Jessie is survived by sons, Edward (Margaret) of East Bay and Dan (Ruth) of Coxheath; daughters, Penny at home in Sydney, Clara (Sandy) MacNeil of Sydney and Velma (Angus) Gillis of Caribou Marsh. She has many special nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved and cared for deeply. Jessie is survived by 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Jessie was predeceased by husband, Archie Edward; daughter, Ann; son, Bryne; brothers, Hector (Annie), John Archie, John Joe (Emily); sisters, Dolena (Johnnie), Sarah, Margaret and Mary and two brothers in infancy; granddaughter, Heather and great-grandson, Caleb.
Visitation will take place on Monday, May 22, 2017 from 7-9 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Lady of Fatima church with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment to follow in St. Margaret’s Cemetery, Grand Mira.

Special thanks to Drs. Steve MacDougall, Susan MacLeod and staff; palliative care nurse Jackie and VON nurse Jeannie. Mom’s favourite expression was “Are we all settled in for the night.” We can be assured she will be surrounded by the loved ones who predeceased her and “She is settled in for good.”
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jessie’s memory may be made to St. Margaret Cemetery Fund, Cape Breton Palliative Care or a charity of your choice.
