It is with great sadness we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Karen Ann Heffernan, age 53, on Friday, May 19, 2017.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Janis (McMullin) and James Heffernan.
Karen was a light in everyone’s life that knew her. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend that would do anything for someone in need. Karen cherished her family and faith above all else.
She leaves behind to mourn her loss the father of her son, Lloyd Hutchinson; son, James Heffernan, who was her pride and joy; sisters, Verna (Bo) Gillis, Janis Attwood (Davey), Joan Heffernan, all of New Victoria; brother, Jimmy (Jennifer) Heffernan; sister-in-law, Tracy Heffernan of New Waterford. Karen will also be greatly missed by her many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, Shauna Gillis, Becky Fiore, Mary Leadbeater and Shauna Kavanaugh, who were like sisters to her; special friends, Donna and Ned Darling, and 'the Girls', their children, Natalie and Amy, and her special little companion, her dog, Oreo.
Besides her parents, Karen was predeceased by her younger brother, Tommy Heffernan and her grandmother, Remigous (Marsh) McMullin.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Victoria, with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent Street.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
