Dwight Peter Al Eliason
July 25, 1969 – May 17, 2017

Dwight was born July 25, 1969 in Big River, Saskatchewan to Oscar and Dorothy Eliason. His first years were spent on the family farm in Park Valley, close to his grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Dwight captured everyone’s heart. He was such a cute little boy with so much fun and love in him and such enthusiasm for life, which he never lost. When he became school age, the family moved to the Prince Albert area to provide more options for Dwight’s education. He attended Kinsmen, Queen Mary, Riverside and finally Carlton Comp where he graduated. Although Dwight was born with Down Syndrome, he never ever thought he had any disabilities. He tried everything and mastered what he tried in his own way. Dwight and Mom shared a very special bond. She did everything she could to allow him all the opportunities to live life like anyone else. He was her life and he felt so comfortable knowing that. Dwight was a born entertainer. He always held a captive audience. At family gatherings he would take over the conversation and entertain everyone. He would dance ‘til he dropped at dances, and had an uncanny desire to be a DJ, which he practiced always. He was a true music enthusiast and knew all the artists, their songs and information about them. His memory was incredible. He learned to play the guitar and banjo as a young boy and liked to sit and play a tune once in a while. In his later years, he attended every concert he could at the Rawlinson Center. He also loved watching movies and knew about many, many stars. He had a library of movies and music CDs bigger than Walmart and could remember which ones he had. He loved holidays, especially the ones where he received gifts. He would center himself in the middle with all his gifts and open each gift, look at one item at a time and comment on each thing. After a bit of this, the teasing would start and people would be taking his things. That’s when the fun began. He loved being teased and it was always a show to behold. Dwight was a very worldly boy. He travelled with Mom to many, many parts of the world, meeting friends all along the way, many of whom he stayed in touch with for years after. Dwight made it his job to befriend everyone he met. If you talked to him once, you were his friend and he would never forget your name. Most times he could figure out a way to make you his cousin. He wanted to be related to everyone. The world was his family.
If you ever gave Dwight your phone number, you would never be lonely again. He loved to phone people and visit on the phone. He was always connected! Dwight started his new career as a Santa Claus. He would dress up and come in to surprise all the little ones. Once he realized he could do it for the family he started branching out. He’d dress up in his Santa suit and visit places he felt could use a little Christmas cheer, soon to be invited to Christmas parties. Christmas was his favorite holiday. Dwight was a real people person. He was charming, he was friendly, he was loving and kind. He had much to offer and did not waste any time in his short life. He lived it the way he wanted to. He did it his way, for sure.
He said he would never lose to the effects of Diabetes – he didn’t. He said he would never ever go to the hospital – he didn’t. He said he was not ever moving from his current apartment that he was so proud of – he didn’t. Once dad passed, he said he wanted to go between Mom and Dad – he did! He knew what he wanted and he did just that. He called the shots!
Rest in Peace buddy. You are a star!
Love you Dwight.
Til we meet again!
