After a courageous battle with multiple myeloma, the death of John McNamara of Hampton, NB, 73, husband of Barbara (Black) McNamara, occurred Monday, February 22nd, 2010, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Youngs Cove Road, NB, he was the son of the late Lester and Mary (Fowler) McNamara. John was an owner of Youngs Cove Contractors Ltd. which operated the Cove Road Texaco; and more recently as co-owner of the Bamara Inn, Hampton. Prior to his retirement John was also employed as a truck driver and a lumberman. He enjoyed baking and was well known for his homemade rolls; however, John will be remembered most of all for his love and devotion to his family and friends. Besides his wife, Barbara, John is also survived by two daughters, Catherine Gunter (Andrew) of Hnausa, Manitoba and Carol LeBlanc (Darren) of Hampton; one son, Michael McNamara (Jennifer) of Penobsquis; two sisters, Lucille Jones (Daniel) of Toronto and Mary Lewis (Neil) of Moncton; one brother, William (Maude) McNamara, Fredericton; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Reece and Florence Pollock; as well as, one brother James.
Arrangements are entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, (506) 832-5541, with visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A memorial service will be held from Hampton United Church, 24 Robb Court, on Thursday, February 25th, 2010, at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Keith Lyons officiating. Reception following in the church hall. Interment will take place in Youngs Cove United Church Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Youngs Cove United Church Cemetery Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or to Mind Care NB.
