Claude A. Soucy, Maj (Ret'd), CD 1937 - 2009 Scoudouc - Claude Armand Soucy, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 15 at the Moncton City Hospital after a valiant battle with Melanoma cancer. Born in Clair, Madawaska County on October 13, 1937, he was the son of the late Albert and Donata (Michaud) Soucy. Proud to be a native of the Republic of Madawaska, Claude, at the age of 17, enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air Force. His military career took him to postings in Europe, Pakistan and throughout many locations in Canada. After retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces, he joined the militia and during this time, he served as Honorary Aide-de-Camp to New Brunswick's Lieutenant Governor. Following his military career, Claude became a realtor, where he eventually served in various positions on the Greater Moncton Real Estate Board and for many years was an instructor for those pursuing the real estate profession. Claude served on various credit Union committees, and belonged to many organizations, most of them being military affiliated. He was president of the United Services Institute, Air Force Veterans' Club, Riverview Military and Armed Forces Association and also was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #6 and Dieppe Veterans Military Association. Claude was a brother in Chevaliers de Colomb, being a 3rd Degree and 4th Degree. A proud man with a gregarious personality, Claude was very fond of his children and grandchildren. He was a gardener, who also enjoyed his pets, loved to travel and go camping; but most of all, he lived for the present. Claude is survived by his two daughters, Charline Soucy Wood (Doug) of Portage La Prairie, MB and Denise Soucy Jordan of Aurora, ON; four grandchildren, Tiffany Jordan, Courtney Jordan, Mackensie Jordan and Tyler Wood; two brothers, Reno Soucy (Réjeanne) and Jacques Soucy (Jocelyn) both of Edmundston; four sisters, Patsy Soucy of Chicoutimi, QC, Jacqueline Bouchard (Armand) and Charlotte Soucy (Ben) both of Edmundston and Pauline Soucy of St-François; and many nieces and nephews. Claude also leaves behind his partner and special friend, Barbara Thorne Caines; her three daughters, Anita Caines Gillman (Richard), Stephanie Caines Mehring (Steven), Nicole Caines Tower (Luke) and grandchildren, Alysha and Mackenzie. Also former wife and mother of his children, Muriel Bourque. He was predeceased by two brothers, Nelson and Hudo and one sister, Roseanne. A Legion Service will be held Sunday, May 17 at 6 pm at the Air Force Veteran's Club, 494 St. George Street in Moncton followed by a luncheon. By special request, there will be no visitation. The funeral will be held at the Passage Chapel in Shediac Bridge, on Monday, May 18 at 11 am. The remains have been cremated for burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Tree of Hope or Friends of the Moncton Hospital may be made in Claude's memory.
