Adrian Vogels, 92, passed away peacefully on March 12th, 2010, at Northumberland Hall in Amherst, NS.
Born in Veghel, the Netherlands, he was the son of Martinus Vogels and Johanna van Rijsingen. Adrian was a butter maker and a farmer but his heart was in his garden. His flowers were beautiful and varied and it was his pleasure to share them by the armful.
He will be missed by his sons and daughters: Martin (Linda) of Riverview, NB; John (Joan) of Fort Lawrence, NS; Henry of Calgary, AB; Mary (Norman) Inglis of Russell, ON; Dorothy Vogels (Neil Mitchell) of Nanaimo, BC; and Irene (Edward) MacLean of Tyne Valley, PE. He will be sadly missed by his sister, Michelina Vervoort of Oshawa, ON. Adrian had 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Adrian was predeceased by his parents, four brothers, three sisters, his first wife, Martina (Royaakers), and by his second wife Annie (Smits). His daughter and first-born child, Helen Porter, passed away in August, 2008.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home at 70 Church Street in Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 16th from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. A memorial service will be held at Holy Family Parish Church, Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at 10 am.
