1926-2010 - Mr. Laurie J. (Pinball) Cormier, 83, passed away on March 15th, 2010 at the Dr.-Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Moncton on September 15, 1926, he was the son of the late Hector Cormier and Elise Breau. He leaves to mourn his two daughters and their families, Gabrielle (Serge Gaudet) and Rachelle (Gilles LeBlanc), his 4 grandchildren, Matthieu LeBlanc (Tina), Danielle, Marissa and Véronique LeBlanc and two great grand-children, David and Ian (Matthieu). He also leaves behind his remaining brother, Father Noël (cjm)(Québec), Sister Lorraine and Sister Rose-Aimée Cormier (both residents of Maison-Mère, King Street), as well as his sister Hélène Comeau of NS and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Gloria, a very special friend Diana Cormier, his brothers Eric, Edmond, Emile, Clarence and Aurèle, and his sisters Dorice LeBlanc, Marie Drisdelle, Zelia Arsenault, and Sister Lydia Cormier. In the 50s and early 60s, with his brother Emile, he operated Northern and Bluebird Amusements, a pinball and jukebox enterprise, where from came his nickname - Pinball Laurie. In 1963, with his other brother (Edmond), he built and operated the Red Lion Beverage Room until his retirement. He has served as President of the New Brunswick Tavern Owners Association and President of the Beauséjour Curling Club. When he was a younger man, he enjoyed curling, fishing and playing poker. With friends and family, he most loved playing billiards, golfing and cooking. He also spent many hours in front of the computer recording music for his friends and family.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Chartersville Funeral home with visiting hours on Wednesday, March 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Thursday, March 18 from 10 a.m. until the time of departure. Funeral services will be held at Ste. Thérèse RC Church in Dieppe at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Dr.-Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital Foundation or to the Centre de formation Terra Nova. www.chartersville.com
