BURKE, Lawrence “Royce”, West Green Harbour, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the home of his son Clayton with whom he resided. Born on March 25, 1907 he was the son of the late Myles and Louise (Langley) Burke. He was a well-loved member of the community, always there to help when needed, and we all appreciated his sense of humor. During his working years he was a lobster fisherman and in the summer months he was a great gardener of both vegetables and flowers. Often folks would drive by just to admire his beautiful flower gardens. In his younger years he had worked in New York City and loved to tell stories about his life there. During retirement years he enjoyed travelling, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and watching television. Many years ago he had helped build the St. Peters Anglican Church in West Green Harbour and was very active in the life of this church as an elder, and later as a Lifetime Member. He is survived by his daughters, Erma (Gerald) Seaboyer, Sable River and Shirley (Hector) Dawe, Dartmouth; sons, Clayton (Bonnie), West Green Harbour and Leeman (Arlene), Mersey Point; sister, Helen Johnson, West Green Harbour as well as ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Pearl (1986); sisters, Jenny (Williams) and Thelma (Williams); brothers, Max, Jim, Bob, Don, and Dale. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 9 in Holy Cross Anglican Church, Lockeport with Rev. Norma Mitchell officiating. Interment in West Green Harbour Anglican Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the V.O.N. Home Support Services or, if you wish, plant a tree or flowers in your garden in his memory.
