The passing of Esther McMackin occurred on March 28, 2010 at Dr. V.A. Snow Nursing Home in Hampton, NB. She had been a resident there for the past three years, following one year at Loch Lomond Villa Nursing Home in Saint John. Esther was born on August 28, 1931 at Briggs’ Corner, Chipman, NB. She is the daughter of the late Russell and Mabel (Shirley) Briggs and was predeceased by son, Michael in 2008. Esther was much loved by her family and her many friends. She was a devoted wife, a very special mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Chester McMackin, Hampton; daughter Anne MacIsaac (Ian), Halifax, NS; three granddaughters; Racare McMackin, Sarah Price (Shane), Jessica McMackin, Hampton; grandson Andrew Sturgeon (Jonelle), Dieppe, NB; four great granddaughters, Ashlyn and Kaitlyn Sturgeon, Sylvia and Sophia Price; sister, Myra Dykeman, Dartmouth, NS; twin sister Ann Chatterton (Ernie), Nackawic, NB; and several nieces and nephews. Esther was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Hampton. During her lifetime she served on many Church associated committees and charitable organizations.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Reid’s Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton. The celebration of Esther’s life will be at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Hampton on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 1:00pm. Interment will be in Hampton Rural Cemetery. A reception will follow the committal service in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Esther’s memory to the Alzheimer Society, Canadian Cancer Society or other charitable organization of choice. The family gives special thanks to all the staff at Dr. V.A. Snow Centre who provided excellent and very compassionate care to our Esther.
