WHITE, Edgar “Whitey”, 91, of Surf Lodge Nursing Home, passed away in Surf Lodge Nursing Home, Lockeport on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Born March 11, 1919 in Mouse Island, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Mushel) White. Whitey served with the Royal Canadian Navy as a sail maker during the Second World War. After the war he worked as a fisherman, skippering boats for Swim Brothers and Pierce Fisheries as well as his own longliner the “Mildred L. White”. Following his fishing career he was a carpenter, building and renovating many homes around Lockeport and Shelburne. His hobbies included model boat building and cabinet maker. Whitey is survived by his wife of 19 years, Dorothy (Pierce) White; sons, Doyle (Wanda), Lr. Sackville; Brent (Vancouver); daughter, Barbara (Irvin) Buchanan, West Green Harbour, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruby (Townsend), second wife, Mildred (Chymist), sons, James and Barry. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Roseway Hospital and Surf Lodge Nursing Home. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 23 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, Lockeport with Pastor Tim Garren officiating. Interment was in Lockeport Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
