John (Jack) Gibson

John Barry (Jack) Gibson, a lifelong resident of St Andrews, NB passed away at Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on April 7, 2010 after a brief illness. Born May 16, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph V. and Effie (Greenlaw) Gibson.
Jack is survived by one sister, Ellen (George) Taylor of Dartmouth, NS; nephews, Evan and Ralph Moffitt, Shawn Cunningham, Stephen and David Taylor, nieces; Brenda Moffitt-Toth, Lorraine Day-Richard, Susan Taylor, step-nephew, Bill Barter and step-niece, Joyce Barter-McFarlane, several grand nephews and grand nieces. The family wishes to acknowledge Jeannie Matheson for her special devotion to Jack's care. Jack was predeceased by his brother, Flight-Lieutenant Joseph V. Gibson, DFC, sisters, Ruth (Gilbert) Moffitt, Phyllis (George) Barter, Charlotte Gibson, Elsie (Raymond) Day and Shirley (Frank) Cunningham. Jack was a master stone mason, a trade which he learned from his father and practiced for over 50 years. He contributed to the restoration projects on Ministers Island, the Algonquin Hotel and worked on many historic properties in St. Andrews and surrounding area. Jack was a long serving member of the St. Andrews Volunteer Fire Department. He also served on the St. Andrews Cemetery Board. He was a very knowledgeable local historian and an avid gardener. He was an active member of the St. Andrews Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Over the years, Jack was always there for family members who gathered at his home at either 82 or later at 83 Water Street in St. Andrews, NB.
Memorial service will be held at the Wesley United Church, St Andrews, NB on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 10:30 AM. There will be no visitation held by request.
