Barry (Sonny) Melrose McRae died peacefully with his family by his side on April 13th, 2010 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born in Carlton Corner, Bridgetown, NS on January 22nd, 1940. He was the son of the late Edwin and Mary Connell and beloved husband of Edna (Chute) McRae.
He is survived by his wife, Edna of 47 years; his children, Debbie (Harold) Wiles of Clementvale, NS, Donna McRae of Geary, Diana McRae of Burton and Barry (Chantel) McRae of Ottawa, ON; seven grandchildren, Michael and Andrew Merritt, Krista McRae-Leake, Christopher, Jesse and Dustin McRae and Kyle Donovan; two great-grandchildren, Celest McRae and Samantha Merritt.
Dad served for the Canadian Armed Forces for 33 years. He was a member of the Black Watch Association and Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93. After his retirement, Dad worked at C &H Salvage and Colburne's Auto Salvage.
Besides his wife, the second love of his life was the International Speedway in Geary, Nascar and his scrapbooks of the track. The Sun Man would never miss a race.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Peter Fraser and all the staff at the Oromocto Public Hospital for the care they gave Dad during his stay.
There will be no visitation at Dad's request. A private family interment will be held in the Geary, French Lake, Waterville Memorial Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Oromocto SPCA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Oromocto Funeral Home.357-5100 www.oromoctofh.com
