Clarence Allen

ALLEN, CLARENCE E. - With treasured memories of a life well lived, and hearts full of sadness, the family of Clarence E. Allen announce his passing at home on April 18, 2010 surrounded by his family - one month shy of his 90th birthday and two months before his 60th wedding anniversary. Born May 14, 1920 in Boston Mass., he was a son of the late John C. and Evelyn (Ewen) Allen. We will forever remember "Dad/Bampie" as a gentle and compassionate soul, with a terrific sense of humor and amazing wit, who took great delight in making people laugh. Dad enjoyed fishing, hunting and puttering in his garage. He was a devoted family man who turned his hand to many trades over the years to provide for his family as a lumberman, canterman, trucker, school bus driver and carpenter. In the 1950's he played short-stop on the Diligent River Dodgers softball team and was nicknamed the "home run hitter." He felt great pride and joy watching his children and grandchildren participate in softball and hockey. Clarence is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eileen (Canning); daughters Gale Boland (Rod); Marjorie Canning (Brian), all of Diligent River; sons, Ronnie (Judy), Diligent River; Kenny, Amherst; Frankie (Joy), Parrsboro; grandchildren, Michelle, Tricia, Allen; Kristin, Matthew; Marci, Bradley; Travis, Evan, Alysha; and Audrey. He was predeceased by a brother, Clifford. With unspeakable sorrow we must accept the loss of our champion father and personal hero. To honor Clarence's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Online condolences at www.smithsfuneralhome.com
"He's not just going to heaven at last; he's been going all along."
