The death of Ann McLeod of Hampton, widow of Robert S. McLeod, occurred May 30, 2010 at her residence. She was born December 17, 1918 in North Berwick, Scotland, daughter of the late George and Margaret (Fergusson) Waterston. She immigrated to Canada with her family in April 1925 at age six, and settled in the Sussex area. Ann graduated from Provincial Normal School in 1937 and taught school from 1937-1946 in the Sussex, Markhamville and Millstream areas. She married Bob upon his return from his WWII service overseas in December 1945. The couple resided in the Penobsquis area, moving to Hampton in 1957 where Ann continued work in the education field as a substitute teacher. She was a member of Hampton United Church and Hampton U.C.W., as well as a former volunteer at the Hampton school libraries, Vivian Myles Fowler Library, Red Cross Meals on Wheels and Hampton Food Basket. The true essence of Ann's active adult life was devotion to her husband of sixty-one years, care and nurturing of their seven children, and later their twenty-one grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, John G.F. McLeod (Carol), Okotoks, AB, Robert A. McLeod (Rosemary), Aldersyde, AB; five daughters, Anne McNeil (Leonard), Bedford, NS, Beth Brown (Rick), Hampton, Jane Corey (Lee), New Maryland, Gail MacKinnon (Graeme), Hampton, Barbara Gates (Allison), Hampton; one brother, Frank Waterston (Ruth), Penobsquis; twenty one grandchildren; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert (2007).
Resting at Reid's Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, (506) 832-5541, with visitation Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at Hampton United Church, 24 Robb Court, Hampton, on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010, at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow the service in the church hall.
