The death of Royce Talmage Alward of Petitcodiac occurred at the Moncton Hospital on June 16, 2010 at the age of 74. Born in Canaan, NB, he was a son of the late Perry and Elizabeth (Ryder) Alward. Royce was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly, where he shared his musical talent, whether he was singing or playing his accordion. He held several jobs over the years, including Cement Cartage but the majority was spent working for the Village of Petitcodiac. Royce was with the Petitcodiac Fire Department for 53 years and had served as Captain and was a Superintendent with the St. John Ambulance. Royce is survived by his wife Ruth (Steeves) Alward, daughters; Sharon (Brian) Gaudet of Petitcodiac, Eleanor (Glen) McVicar of Lower Brighton, Leslie Tingley of Petitcodiac and Heather (Brent) Demont of Canaan, sons; Herbie of Moncton, James (Corry) of Riverview and Sheldon (Angela Taylor) of Saint John, 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, sisters; Joyce Norris of Moncton and Vesta (Bob) Goddard of Intervale, brothers; Delbert (Jean) of Havelock and Lee (Lois) of Moncton, brother-in-law Bill (Sally) Cruickshank of Springhill, NS and several nieces and nephews. Royce was predeceased by a sister Della Cruickshank.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Armstrong's Funeral Home, 33 Russell Street, Petitcodiac (506-756-3361). The funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Petitcodiac Baptist Church at 1:00 PM with Pastor Calvin Fenwick presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Petitcodiac Fire Department or the Junior St. John Ambulance Brigade.
