Kenneth Roderick Boyes of Gravelbourg, SK passed away on June 13, 2010 at the age of 87 years. Ken was born in Wakaw, SK on October 15, 1922. He was the second of four children born to Roderick and Isabel Boyes. Ken grew up in Dormrey where his parents farmed. He received his elementary education in Pea Vine and his high school education in Northern Lights. Ken began his career as a grain buyer in Canwood in 1946 and throughout the years also held positions in St. Louis, Paddockwood and Unity. He was promoted to supervisor for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and worked in Kerrobert and Gravelbourg. Ken married Marjorie McLean in 1949 and they were blessed with two children, Sylvin and Rick. Ken was involved in many sports, such as hockey, baseball, softball, golf and bowling. Ken's keen interest in and knowledge of golfing gained him a job at the Thompson Lake Golf Course for nine years. Ken was very outgoing and was involved in a lot of volunteer work and sitting on many different boards. Ken will be missed for his genuine concern for others, optimistic personality and quick wit. Ken was predeceased by his wife Marjorie Boyes (1993); parents Roderick and Isabel Boyes; sister Helen Boyes; brother Lindsay Boyes; sisters-in-law Nettie Boyes, Gladys Demaine, Clara Palmer and Greta McLean; brothers-in-law Lyle Hannah, Oliver McLean and Francis (Bud) Demaine; niece Sheila Demaine; nephew Roderick Boyes. Ken is survived by his children Sylvin (Harvey) Agnew and Dr. Rick (Lynn) Boyes; grandchildren Brian Boyes, Brendan Boyes, Heather (Matthew) Ksyniuk and Timothy Agnew; sister Vi Hannah; close friends Jeanne Bouvier and Alex Samoisette; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Service was held on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Church of Christ, Gravelbourg, SK with Pastor Wendell Bailey officiant. Memories of Ken were shared by Rick Boyes and Heather Ksyniuk. Honorary pallbearers were John Coid and Thomas Rindal. Active pallbearers were Brett Rushka, Alex Samoisette, Emile Thibodeau, Bill Pyett, Neil Maskell, Leo Bouvier and Dave Tindall. Interment on Friday, June 18, 2010 at Memorial Gardens, Prince Albert, SK. Memorial tributes in memory of Ken to Red Cross, Canadian Cancer Society and Heart & Stroke Foundation were greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapels, Assiniboia & Gravelbourg.
