Bruce Smyth, 81, passed away on Friday, July 16th, 2010 at McNair Manor in Riverview where he had resided for the past six years. Born in Cumberland Bay on July 6, 1929, he was the only child of the late Leonard and Catherine (White) Smyth. He worked for twenty years for the New Brunswick Department of Transportation in Chipman. Prior to that he farmed and harvested lumber on the family farm in Cumberland Bay. He was a member and deacon of the Cumberland Bay United Baptist Church and active in the community. Bruce enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Velma (Leckey); daughter Karen Boileau and her husband Allan of Riverview; grandchildren Beth Hunter of Fredericton; Sean Boileau of Nishinomya, Japan; Aron Boileau of Riverview; and Meaghan MacKay of Kitchener, Ontario; and one great granddaughter Marley Hunter. He was predeceased by his daughter Catherine Smyth MacKay.
Resting at the Chipman Funeral Home until Monday, July 19th, 2010 when funeral services will be held from the Cumberland Bay Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mitchell Foley officiating. Interment will be in the Cumberland Bay United Cemetery following the service. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cumberland Bay Baptist Church or charity of donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
