Evelyn Murray

MURRAY, Evelyn Joyce (nee Burbine) RN -
July 29th 1932 - July 28th 2010
Joyce ended her battle with Alzheimer's and entered peacefully into the nearer presence of our Lord on Wednesday, 28 July 2010, in her 78th year.
She was the wife of Robert Murray, who predeceased her in September, 1983. She was also predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Edna Burbine, and her beloved brother Darrell.
Much loved and deeply missed by her three children, Stephen, Susan, and Bruce; her four grandchildren, Michael, Lorne, Collin, and Nicholas; her sister in law Ruby; niece Kim; nephew Rob; a large extended family; and many dear friends.
Born in Nova Scotia overlooking the upper reaches of the Bay of Fundy, Joyce spent her childhood in Joggins and later in Minudie, during her father's 2nd World War service in Europe. She fulfilled her dream and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow in 1954. She would serve in hospitals and clinics in Amherst, Dartmouth, and Halifax, finding her greatest satisfaction in the Operating Room of the Childrens' Hospital. Putting her career on hold to raise her family, she later returned to nursing in the Musquodoboit Valley in 1981 while continuing to juggle books; various dogs, cats, rabbits, and a horse; with swimming lessons, canoeing, walks in the woods, and cross country skiing with Jake. Joyce taught us the wonder of God's creation in all of its diversity and that a job worth doing is worth doing well.
Special thanks to the staff of Taunton Mills Retirement Home in Whitby, Ontario, for their care and compassion over the past five years and to Joyce's nursing colleague Doreen Humphreys for her faithful support.
Visitation on Tuesday, August 3rd 2010 at 11:00am followed by Funeral Service at noon at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby, Ontario. Details of a Memorial Service in Nova Scotia will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the Izaak Walton Killam (IWK) Health Centre in Halifax. Condolences can be left for her family at www.wctownfuneralchapel.com.
