Passed peacefully away on Friday August 20, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, at G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Gordon J. Taverner of Shoal Harbour at the age of 91 years. Predeceased by parents William and Mary, sister Sadie, brothers Arthur, Eric and Colin. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his wife of 68 years Lily; Sons Austin and wife Judy of Ottawa, Ed and wife Greta of Sandy Point and Dennis and wife Valerie of Shoal Harbour; Grandchildren Lori (Joe), Brian (Debbie), Neil, Jennifer (Mark), Krista (Jimmie), Michael (Tammy), Carolyn (Ronnie), Jill (Dean), Wendy (Deon), Andrew; Great grandchildren Tanisha, Javontae, Markaedyn, Neil, Hudson, Austin, Adam, Regan and Jack; sister Irene Penney and husband Leslie plus a large circle of family and friends. Funeral service was officiated by Rev. Sharon Earle-Marshall from Shoal Harbour United Church on Monday August 23, 2010 with interment following at Old United Church Cemetery, Shoal Harbour. Pallbearers were: grandson Brian Taverner, nephews Barry Walters and Dwayne Wiseman, friends Campbell Greening, Bob Harnum and Sandy Clarke.
