We regret to announce the peaceful passing of Joseph MacNeil, son of Clara and Joseph MacNeil.
He was born June 25, 1918 in Sydney MInes, Nova Scotia. He died May 17, 2009 in Vancouver, B.C.
He left home at age 20 to work as a miner in Ontario. He enlisted in the Merchant Navy until 1942, when he joined the Canadian army with the Cape Breton Highlanders serving in Italy and Holland from 1942-1946.
Upon discharge, he joined his brothers, Tom and Cameron as a deep sea sailor, living in Vancouver, B.C.
He loved to travel and made many and lasting friends along his way.
Joe is survived by his brothers, Hamilton, Sydney Mines, Frank in Surrey, B.C.; sisters, Isabel, Bras d’Or, Agatha, Edmonton, Helen, Ontario; also many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Tom, Cameron, Eddie and Connie; sisters, Ella, Mary and Ruth.
A funeral mass was held at Holy Rosary Cathederal, Vancouver.
At Joe’s request, a donation may be made to a children’s charity.
