ANDERSON, Florence Christene - 78, Truro. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly loved mother on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at home after a valiant battle with cancer. Born August 18, 1932, in Saint John, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Stewart) Wheten. Mom died as she lived, with quiet dignity and a strong faith in God. She was the last resident of the original families on Nova Drive. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, the foremost being her home and family. Going out for lunch, family gatherings and getting together to celebrate milestones brought her immense pleasure. She enjoyed watching all things grow and blossom, from her flowers to her grandchildren whom she loved, supported and encouraged. She always spoke fondly of her childhood days growing up in Highland Village and passed on her sense of family connectedness to her children and grandchildren. She touched the lives of many people during her nursing career and worked tirelessly to ensure that the elderly received compassionate care. Mom maintained her sense of humour, her poise and remained the heart and soul of her family to her last day. Outside of her family, she enjoyed membership in Saint Andrew's Society, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, The Widow and Widowers Club and Immaculate Conception Church Choir. She is lovingly remembered by her children, John (Susan), Panama City Beach, Florida; Dorothy Wood (Jerry), Kentville; Crystal Dill, Truro; Margaret Anderson (Bob), Pugwash; Lorraine Jones (Robert), Valley; Donald (Cheryl), Bible Hill; 20 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; siblings, Bill (Lillian), Edmonton, Alberta; Carmelita Cairns, Fresno, California; Michael, Ottawa, Ontario; Barry, Bible Hill. She was predeceased by her husband, William; siblings, John, Bernard, Patricia; sons-in-law, Christopher Anderson, Bob Dill. The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Smith, Dawn Martell and the Palliative Care Team, especially Heather Lynds for their assistance, guidance and compassionate care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Christene's family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, September 12, 2010. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2010, in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro, Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Reception will follow in Campbell Hall. Interment in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 125 Robie Street, Truro. Donations may be made to The Lodge That Gives, Canadian Diabetes Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting the "Guest Book" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com

    “To the Anderson Family,

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family on the loss of your mom. I had the pleasure working with your mom when she worked at Townsviews, which has been awhile ago. Christine always had a smile and her soft touch with the elderly was so sincere. My sincere sympathy to you all. Denice”
