January 7, 1939 - September 9, 2010

Surrounded by his family, Al took his final journey of life after a courageous battle with cancer. His humour and kindness remained to his last day.

He is survived by his soul mate Marg of 47 years, daughters Janice (Jim) Neilson, Shellie (Ed) Aspeslet and his best buddy, grandson Tyson Allan Aspeslet. Al is also survived by his sister Avis (Bernard) White, brother-in-law Jerry (Lynne) Gramiak, niece Alana, nephews Warren, Terry, Jeff and Chris, along with their families and step grandchildren Trent and Krista and their families. Al was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Charles Hawkins, and his brother-in-law, Murray Young.

Al's career in the RCMP started in November, 1960. He retired as Sgt. from the Sparwood Detachment in 1986. He then worked for five years at H.V. Copper with security.

Even with his struggle, his concerns for his family and friends were a very important part of his life. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting and of course the beer and stories that went along with his good life. Many happy years were spent at Magna Bay Resort with family and friends. He loved to travel and was fortunate to be able to go on many trips with his family. His last greatest adventure was taking his grandson Tyson to Disneyland last year.

The family would like to thank the wonderful angels at Hospice for their gentle, caring hands, Deborah Nystad for being with us during Al's final hours, Dr. Anders for his years of support and caring, and the Cancer Clinic Staff in Kamloops and Kelowna.

Pastor Don Maione will conduct the memorial service in the Schoening Funeral Chapel, 513 Seymour St., on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 1:00 pm.
