RAYNARD, Vernon Leroy - On September 24, 2010, at the age of 97, while in his own home at Glenwood, Yarmouth Co., Vernon Leroy Raynard rejoined his beloved bride, Lillian, and he met his Redeemer, Jesus Christ, face to face - all while we were sleeping. Although we hoped he would stay with us a while longer, it seems he could not bear to be apart from his dear bride. God, who is abundant in grace, allowed him to rejoin her earlier than we expected. We are missing him; nevertheless, we are so glad they are together, never again to be parted. Born on Rankins Island, Yarmouth, Co. August 8, 1913 he was a son of the late George W. and Bertha M. (Hurlburt) Raynard. Vernon was a trucker, farmer, and fisherman and was involved in the Irish moss and Christmas tree industries. He was a general merchant and member of Glenwood United Baptist Church. He loved travelling, camping and was a great story teller. He is survived by daughters, Margaret Earle of Brooklyn, Miriam (Robert) Peverill of Roberts Island, Sharon (Terry) Earle of Roberts Island, and Connie (Ron) Bain of Glenwood; son, Clyde Raynard of Dartmouth; sister, Avis Wheeler of Yarmouth; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Lillian who passed away on July 12, 2010; daughter, Phyllis Fitzsimmons; great grandsons, Jason Earle and Robbie Sparklin; great granddaughter, Bethany Sparklin; sisters, Ruth in infancy and Evelyn; brothers, Elmer, Lloyd and Ernest. Visitation took place Sunday, September 26, from 7-9 pm at Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, Yarmouth. Funeral services were held at Evangel Assembly Church on Monday at 2:00pm which Rev. Richard Fowler, Pastor Oral Stewart and Pastor Keith Moore officiated. Interment took place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Camp Peniel, Hands Across the Sea, or the S.P.C.A.
